On March 18, the nearly 1 billion people around the world who follow the Hindu religion will celebrate Holi (HOH-lee). It is also known as the Festival of Colors. Joyful crowds gather in India and other countries and toss colored powder into the air. The holiday is meant to clear away the gray days of winter and welcome spring.

Holi also celebrates the triumph of good over evil. The happy festival is a day of goodwill and togetherness. Family and friends dance, sing, and eat sweets.
